FAQs – Private Hairdressing & Barbering Courses
If you’re thinking of applying for one of our private hairdressing or barbering courses at our London or Ipswich hair academies, check out our FAQs below where we answer the most commonly asked questions by students. For further information about our courses, please call us on 020 7634 9400 or email enquiries@aland.co.uk.
Do I need specific qualifications to apply for one of your courses?
The good news is that you don’t need any particular qualifications to join any of our courses. All you’ll require is motivation, enthusiasm for hairdressing or barbering, and a willingness to learn.
How long are your full-time hairdressing and barbering courses?
Every course is different, and some require a longer period of learning than others. For example, our foundation courses are shorter than our advanced courses, as they’re less intensive. Anticipate learning for a period of five to 26 weeks, depending on the level / qualification chosen.
Can I work part-time while doing my course?
Yes, many of our courses offer part-time schedules. Full-time courses run Monday to Friday, 10am to 3:30pm, while part-time training can be arranged by agreement. Part-time options typically require a minimum of 3 consecutive days per week, leaving you free to work the remaining days. We don’t offer evening classes as it’s our belief that you learn better when you’re fresh. Contact us to discuss the best schedule for your situation.
How much theory and practical work is included in your courses?
Most of the work is practical, which means you’ll have plenty of opportunity to practice your skills. However, some of your classes will cover theory too, so be prepared.
Will I need to sit an exam at the end of my course?
None of our hairdressing or barbering courses include a final exam. Instead, we assess your performance continuously throughout the duration of your course.
Will I receive certification once I complete one of your courses?
Upon completion of your course, you’ll receive Alan d Certification and/ or an officially recognised VTCT certificate. This provides you with the perfect starting point for beginning your career in the industry.
What qualifications will I receive after completing the course?
Each course comes with its own qualification. Depending on which programme you select, you will receive either an Alan d certificate for foundation courses, comprehensive colouring, OnTheFloor bootcamp, and refresher courses, or VTCT (Vocational Training Charitable Trust) nationally recognised qualifications for Level 2 Diplomas, Level 3 Certificates, and NVQ Diplomas at Levels 2 and 3. VTCT qualifications are industry-standard, nationally recognised certifications accepted by employers throughout the UK and internationally.
What is included in the course fees?
Course fees include all training, expert instruction, salon environment access, and training with live models. Additional costs are professional kits (which you keep), VTCT examination fees (£150 for VTCT qualifications), and optional add-ons. See our “What Every Course Includes” section above for full details.
Do you provide job placement assistance after graduation?
We have strong relationships with salons we’ve trained staff for over our 60+ years in the industry. While we don’t offer formal job placement services, our reputation and industry connections often benefit our graduates. We recommend checking our Instagram highlights for student reviews and success stories.
Can I visit the training facilities before enrolling?
Yes, we welcome prospective students to visit our training facilities. Contact us to arrange a visit and see our realistic salon environment, meet our instructors, and learn more about our courses. Email us at enquiries@aland.co.uk or WhatsApp us on 020 7634 9400 to schedule your visit.
