#OntheFloor
The Fast-Track Hairdressing Course You Design Yourself
#OntheFloor is a fast-track hairdressing course built around what you need to learn. You choose the length, 1, 3, 5 or 10 days, and you choose the focus: cutting, colouring, styling or barbering. Before you start, we agree exactly what your training will cover, so every day you work on the skills you actually came for.
We’ve been training hairdressers and barbers for over 60 years. The academy is in the City of London, Barbican, adjacent to the Farringdon Elizabeth Line, and you’ll train in a realistic working salon environment using salon-professional products and styling tools.
This course is for qualified hairdressers, not beginners. Some join us straight from college, qualification in hand, but not yet confident enough for a busy salon floor. Others have been working for years and want to sharpen up one specific skill. If there’s a gap between what you can do and what you want to do, this is the short, intensive course that closes it.

What You’ll Learn
Teaching Approach
You’re already qualified, so we don’t start from scratch. Your trainer works with what you already know and concentrates on the areas you’ve asked to cover. Training is hands-on from the first hour, with theory kept to what’s essential for the skills in front of you.
There’s no fixed syllabus to sit through, and no repeating things you mastered years ago. The time goes where the gaps are.
Mandatory Units
Your training concentrates on one or more of four areas, agreed with you before you start:
- Cutting – building accuracy, speed and confidence with the shapes and techniques you want to improve
- Colouring – practical colour work using salon-professional products
- Styling – finishing and styling skills for the salon floor
- Barbering – adding or strengthening barbering techniques alongside your hairdressing
One day suits someone who wants to focus on one single skill. Ten days give you room to rebuild confidence across several areas. Three and five-day options sit in between.
Course Structure
We agree on your focus and course length before you start, and the rest is straightforward. Training days run Monday to Friday, 10 am to 3:30 pm, at the academy, where you’ll work in a working salon environment alongside students on our other programmes. There are no fixed monthly intakes for this one. You tell us when you want to train and we arrange the dates by request.
Hands-On Experience
Training will be on both mannequin heads and live models. The mannequins are for repetition and drilling into a technique.
Live models are booked through our model bank, and that’s where most people find their confidence. Working on real hair that behaves differently head to head, with someone in the chair who cares how it turns out is where the confidence gets built.
Assessment
This course isn’t assessed and there are no exams and no sign-off. Your trainer stays with you while you work and puts you right in the moment, so a bad habit gets caught before it sets in. You won’t come away with a certificate. You’ll come away quicker and steadier on the floor, which is usually what was missing after the first qualification.
Is This Course Right for You?
Entry Requirements
This Course is Ideal For
- College leavers who hold a hairdressing qualification but don’t yet feel confident on the salon floor
- Working hairdressers who want to brush up on one specific skill
- Hairdressers who want to add barbering to their skill set
- Anyone who learns best through short, intensive, practical training built around their own gaps
What You’ll Achieve
Your Qualification
Our #OntheFloor bootcamp is practical skills training for people who are already qualified. What you gain is measured on the salon floor with improved skill like cleaner cutting, more confident colour work, quicker styling, and the composure that comes from doing it repeatedly under an experienced eye. If you are looking for a regulated qualification the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing is the course to look at.
Skills You’ll Develop
That depends on the focus you choose, which is rather the point. Across all versions of the course you can expect sharper technique in your chosen areas, better speed, and the confidence to take on clients you’d previously have passed to a colleague. The real measure is how you feel walking onto the salon floor the following Monday.
Where to Go Next
For many students this course is the bridge between qualifying and working with real confidence, and nothing further is needed. If you want to keep going, the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing takes experienced stylists into advanced techniques with a nationally recognised, Ofqual-regulated qualification at the end. And if the barbering side of your training has caught your interest, there’s a barbering version of #OntheFloor, built on the same bespoke basis.
