I’m glad to say we’ve been busy lately and I’m just taking a few minutes out to update my blog and let my loyal readers (assuming there are a few) know the latest goings-on at the hive of industry that is Alan d.
At the beginning of May ’23 we moved premises about 200 metres down the road to a very interesting building we are sharing with the London School of Beauty and Make-Up, Urban Retreat, a new hair salon relocated from Knightsbridge, Flavour, a health-food café and opening shortly, Cycle London, a cycle storage company with shower facilities and the best bi, a great roof-terrace… wonderful in mid-winter.
I’m confirming here and now… no, I’m not cycling 17 miles to the City and back every day!
Seriously, moving focuses your mind on things that maybe you’ve missed because you get into a comfort mode, you know, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. We looked at some of the courses we offer and realised that we’re missing a few elements of Ladies hairdressing & Barbering training i.e. getting input from Salon Owners on their staffs’ skill levels.
We are introducing something called “Skill-Scan”, aimed at Salon staff’ by reviewing their skill levels in cutting, colouring etc. over 2 days and then we send a report back to the salon owner with our recommended bespoke training program. We’ve trialed it and it works & we’re working on other innovative courses which we’ll announce in due course.
By the way, look out for our “new logo” which is gradually being filtered into our website etc; AND… our pink d remains as a reminder of our previous 32 years in business.
I must mention something that I think is a sign of the difficult times that we’ve all been going through. We have recently tied-up with a finance provider called Knoma who provide loans for courses. On a review of the applications for finance, so many potential Barbers have been declined because, we assume, of a poor credit rating. As I said, sign of the times.
On a personal note, apart from having hand surgery twice in the last 6 months, we’re all well and enjoying the lovely weather we’ve had over the last couple of weeks. I’d love to hear from you if you’ve got something to add to my latest stuff and maybe we’ll see you at the Salon event in October
