I haven’t written anything for a little while as my involvement with the business on a practical basis is obviously limited. TOO OLD perhaps?
However, I feel it’s time to put a few of our Industry colleagues straight regarding the nonsense they’ve been spreading regarding Apprentices and their training. Speaking from the experience of a 65 year career starting with a 3 year Apprenticeship program leading to amazing job opportunities, world-wide travel and meeting some great people within the Industry, I feel I’m fairly-well qualified to comment on the rubbish being spread by various organisations within the trade.
Apprentice training is the back-bone of the Industry. I bet a huge majority of practicing Hairdressers & Barbers have come through the Apprenticeship route. I know how tough it is to employ staff having had some 140 people working for us at one time. However, if, as the doom-mongers predict, there aren’t Apprentices starting their career working in salons learning the basics of customer service and then moving on to the cutting, colouring, perming (yes, we still teach perming) and all the other skills that make us such valuable members of the local communities we serve, where does the industry go from here?
Please stand up and be counted. Make you voice heard and tell these stupid people you don’t agree with the nonsense they’re peddling. If you have any comments in the above, please call or message us.
Have a great Spring and Summer.
Alan
