Salon International

I can’t believe that this time last week I was preparing my intro cards for all the teams on Hairdressers Journal Mens Stage and Kevin was doing last minute organising for his Grad Team presentation on the Fellowship for British Hairdressing stage.

For those in the industry my last paragraph probably makes sense. For those new to the industry or looking to join, I’ll explain! Salon International is the UK’s largest Hairdressing trade show. It is a showcase of everything hair and barbering that happens every October. Even after 25 years, I still look forward to the buzz and catching up with old friends. Some of the biggest brands are there and some of the world’s greatest hairdressers also attend and the Fellowship is the most prestigious organisation in the industry with one of the biggest stages.

I was honoured this year to be asked by Hairdressers Journal to run HJ Men Stage. All of my years’ presenting experience put to the test over 1 weekend. Because I was going to be at the HJ Men Stage all weekend, Kevin had the opportunity to host our Grad Team on the Fellowship stage. This was the 4th year running that we had been asked and I’m delighted to tell you that the show was brilliant. The feedback was great from all involved. Considering the Grad Team is made up of our students; both NVQ2 and NVQ3 the standard of work was off the scale amazing!

What was noticeable this year particularly was a return to longer hair for men. We’ve noticed the trend for the last couple of years, but this year it was Barbers that were talking about it. Fades will never go away completely, but cutting hair is going to become so much more important. We have never compromised our curriculum. We still teach any new student our 9 Essential cuts working from long to short, whether doing Ladies Hairdressing or Barbering. By learning those basic skills and how to control hair, they have the perfect future-proof foundations.

So, if you’re looking to join the industry, or an employer looking to place your apprentice with a training provider that really does offer no compromise hairdressing or barbering training then give us a call. Who knows, it could be you on stage next year!
