Introducing Jess, Student Ambassador

I’m Jess and I’m really excited to be one of the Alan D ambassadors for 2017. I guess I’d better tell you a little bit about myself…….
I’m 21 and only started hairdressing a couple of years ago. As with a lot of teenagers, I really didn’t know what I really wanted to do as a career. After leaving school at 16 I went to college to study art and design. I really enjoyed the course, but still couldn’t decide what I wanted to do with my passion for art and fashion. I’d always had part time jobs to earn extra money during college (I’ve never been afraid of a bit of hard work) actually I really enjoy the buzz of the work environment so I decided to take a few beauty courses which I paid for by waitressing. Once qualified, I began working on friends and family and gradually started to build my own client base. I love meeting people and making them feel good and this led me to the world of hairdressing which I instantly fell in love with.

Nearly 2 years ago I walked into the salon which at 15 I used to have my hair cut in. Kinki always had a lovely atmosphere and the layout was so cool. I had an interview and the following day I was one step closer to my dream.

A few weeks later, I began my NVQ2 at Alan d Ipswich and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my time at the academy, in fact I didn’t want to leave and I’m now midway through my NVQ3.

Not only have I learned some amazing skills and techniques from the team here, who are brilliant hairdressers, but I have even been on stage representing Alan d at Salon International, meeting some great people on the way.

I can’t wait to let you know about my journey this year, so until next time follow me @jessicaw4848
